To deliver precise calculations, PullCalc structures data input by "legs," with each leg representing a straight section of conduit followed by a potential bend, minus the final leg that typically remains unbent. Detailed parameters such as wire size, the number of wires, conduit inner diameter, duct material, the material of cable insulation, the coefficient of friction, length of each leg, bend angle, and vertical rise must be inputted by users. An enhancement now allows for calculating force within cable trays by specifying the orientation of the leg as horizontal, upward, or downward, thus ensuring total estimation accuracy for the entire cable tray route.
It's important to note that the results provided by this tool are estimates, primarily due to unknown variables like varying coefficients of friction. Variables such as lubrication, surface texture, and cable layout are not uniform along a conduit's run. However, the application includes a reference table with suggested coefficients for well-lubricated cables, which can serve as a baseline and be adjusted based on insights from prior pulls.
The app works in conjunction with the latest Greenlee Smart Pull technology, enhancing the user experience with real-time monitoring of pulling force, speed, and distance. It features intuitive alerts—flashing yellow as the cable tension approaches 80% of its maximum, and flashing red as it surpasses 100%. Moreover, the convenience factors such as direct email sharing and social media integration for project data, allow for efficient management and documentation of pulling jobs.
